Iran-Israel-US War — The ceasefire broke down July 8. Iran struck commercial ships in Hormuz on July 7. Trump declared the ceasefire “over” and the US struck 170 Iranian targets in 48 hours including near a nuclear reactor. Iran retaliated against US military sites in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Jordan. As of July 10 no new strikes for several hours, with technical discussions continuing through mediators. The war has resumed.
Sudan — The UN fact-finding mission found genocide “overwhelmingly present” in El Fasher, with mass rape in presence of corpses and tens of thousands missing. ICC announced a “breakthrough” directly linking RSF leadership to Darfur crimes. The RSF is now preparing an assault on el-Obeid with up to 500,000 civilians at risk. UNICEF confirmed 300+ children killed or injured by drone strikes in the first six months of 2026.
South Sudan — Save the Children reported July 7 that children in Jonglei are surviving on leaves and water lilies. 700,000 children are suffering severe acute malnutrition. ICRC medical evacuations up 50% year-over-year.
Lebanon — A US CENTCOM delegation arrived July 10 to implement the framework. Talks moving to Rome July 15-16. Israeli drones continued striking — killing a man July 10 despite the framework.
